This week, we explore the spiritual side of Henry David Thoreau’s Walden—its call to strip away the distractions that separate us from God, to embrace humility, and to recognize the possibility of a reality beyond what we can see. Along the way, Thoreau writes of the “human insect,” resurrection and immortality, an “invisible boundary,” and the heavenly lights revealed by darkness. His final words offer perhaps the book’s deepest invitation: “There is more day to dawn. The sun is but a morning star.”
